During moments of crisis, a grateful perspective is critical to sustaining a positive attitude—to energize, to heal, and to bring hope.
As a means of continuing gratitude practices during the COVID-19 era, BCA’s Wellness Committee encouraged staff members to participate in a 30-day gratitude challenge during the month of August.
Self-selected participants received a “cultivating gratitude” packet which included practical daily prompts to foster gratitude and mindfulness. The prompts ranged from reflecting on positive experiences to tracking efforts to do something kind for others to dedicating time to be present in the moment. The challenge was designed so staff members would take a few minutes of every day for 30 days to help reframe and create a more positive experience during the pandemic.
“It was our hope that staff members participating in this gratitude challenge would experience an improved outlook and an increased feeling of resilience during times of uncertainty,” said Jessica Kirchner, Communications Manager and Wellness Committee Chair. “Our goal is to encourage staff members to continue gratitude practices in their everyday lives even after the challenge has concluded.”
